RBTs often work with children diagnosed with autism (ASD). The nature of the work requires a compassionate and patient approach, as you may encounter challenging behaviors such as self-injury or aggression.
However, the progess it so beautiful!
Watching your clients build new skills, master goals and grow is the BEST feeling EVER!
Steps to becoming a RBT
Side note: Please review the RBT Handbook to more information or just ask me :)
Step 1: Education and Training
You'll need a high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
You must be at lest 18 years old.
No criminal history
Additionally, you will need to complete a 40-hour training program that covers topics such as behavior management and applied behavior analysis techniques.
A free 40 hour training is here if that's your next question lol
This is the one I used, no need to spend a lot of money.
Yes, it's boring lol maybe one day I'll make my own 40 hour training.
But for now.. Free is the best way to go!
Step 2: Get a Supervisor!
After completing the required training, you need a supervisor!
Yes, a BCBA!
For your next step...
Step 3: Pass the RBT Competency Assessment
You have to take a verbal competency assessment that are be both verbel and modeling proving that you learned something in that 40 hour training you watched lol
So, PAY ATTENTION!
It's okay to be nervous.
When I take my RBT competency assessment lol my supervision was just doing too much. lol
But love him for that lol
He was asking me trick questions like: What's ABB data? \
I'm like: Bruh WTF !
Like... Did I forget to study something!
FYI he wanted me to correct him and say, "ABC data you mean"
lol so just trust yourself!
You got this!!
Step 4: Apply for Certification
After passing the RBT Competency Assessment, you can proceed to apply for certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
DO NOT LET YOUR COMPANY create your BACB account in your work email or create your password.
Just in case you leave that company one day!
This is my warning to you ...
The certification process involves submitting your application, completing a background check, and paying the required fees.
The fee is $50 for the BACB application then an additional $45 to take the exam!
Typically your job will cover the cost!
Step 5: Take and PASS Your RBT Exam
First off, if you fail ........ DON'T GIVE UP!
It's okay, Keep trying! :)
Once you PASS, you will official be an RBT!
